Who is Sophia dos Santos?

I help you learn a new language or translate your text, so you can explore the world!

I help you learn a new language or translate your text, so you can explore the world!

I am a teacher and translator of English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

As a teacher, I teach students who live in Spain and want to feel safer in their daily lives; English speakers who want to explore the Hispanic world or reconnect with their own roots; people who need to learn a language quickly for a new professional opportunity; and also those who simply want to travel, see the world, and enjoy each experience with more freedom.

As a translator, I help works overcome barriers, especially books, films, series, and games.

But above all, I am a curious soul.

For a long time, I felt like my city held me back; I was stuck in the middle of the jungle for 10 years, without ever leaving! When I finally moved, I thought that feeling would disappear, but it didn’t. I still felt limited, as if there was a huge world on the other side of the window that I needed to explore.

It just took me a while to understand why.

The truth is, my curiosity never let me stay still.

I wanted to get to know other places, other cultures, other ways of living. I wanted to talk to different people, understand how they thought, discover their stories and, above all, experience a little of what existed beyond my own world.

That’s how languages entered my life.

For a long time, I was far from the places I wanted to visit, unable to simply pack a suitcase and leave. Then I found another way to travel: Languages allowed me to cross borders without leaving my place.

Each language introduced me to a new universe, and each conversation with someone from another culture broadened my worldview a little more.

And I didn’t want to keep that possibility to myself.

That’s how I became a teacher and translator.

Today, I have a degree in Literature, and I have the opportunity to work with people who have very different backgrounds and goals.

Each student arrives with a different reason for wanting to learn.

And I travel a lot even during classes, since in each class I travel to the world of a new person!

In translation, something similar happens.

When I translate a text, I enter the universe of the author, seeking to understand their intention, their context, their culture, and the message that needs to cross a border. That’s why it’s also very important for me to genuinely experience and understand these cultures. I’m rewriting a book, translating subtitles so that they reach other places, allowing the consumer to have the same experience and feelings as when consuming the original language.

In the end, I realized that both teaching and translating allow me to do what I’ve always sought:

Traveling between worlds and learning a lot!

And that’s what I want to provide here.

I want to help you discover that the world is much bigger than what we know intimately, and that learning a language can be one of the most beautiful ways to begin exploring it..
